Granulated cork with granules 2-3 mm in size, at densities of 130/140 lb per cubic meter (m³). The cork granules are made from natural cork, which has been minimally processed.
The cork granules have many uses - you can add them to the soil in plants to improve the aeration of the soil, incorporate them into the background and sets in various productions (as a substitute for soil, to create a texture on different surfaces, etc.), use it as a filler (dolls, pads, etc.), use it in crafts, as well as a variety of other uses.
- Soil amendment: Incorporating cork granules into the soil helps improve its structure and water-holding capacity. The granules absorb and retain moisture, providing a steady water supply to plant roots while also preventing waterlogging. This feature is especially useful in dry or sandy soils that struggle with water retention.
- Mulching: Spread a layer of cork granules around your plants as mulch. Cork acts as an insulator, regulating soil temperature by keeping it cooler in hot weather and warmer in cold conditions. Additionally, it helps suppress weed growth by blocking sunlight and inhibiting weed germination.
- Erosion control: In areas prone to soil erosion, such as slopes or garden beds on inclines, cork granules can be applied to stabilize the soil. They form a protective layer that prevents rainwater from washing away the topsoil and helps bind the soil particles together.
- Container gardening: When growing plants in containers or pots, incorporating cork granules into the potting mix can improve moisture retention and aeration. The granules create air pockets within the soil, enhancing root respiration and preventing soil compaction.
- Seed starting: Cork granules can also be used as a seed-starting medium. They provide a lightweight and well-draining substrate for germinating seeds, allowing air circulation around the delicate roots. The granules retain moisture, helping to maintain optimal conditions for seed germination.
Remember to adjust your watering practices when using cork granules. They retain moisture, so you may need to water less frequently than with other soil amendments. Regularly monitor the soil moisture levels to ensure your plants are receiving adequate hydration.
The granulated cork comes in a 1 lb bag.
